first and foremost, this story is not finished. it is not to be published yet, not by a long shot, and i doubt it ever will be. for a community so complex, most of the time we overlook how much the roles of the types of people aforementioned overlap. perhaps we do so out of fear, or anger, or something else, but it is not out of ignorance. i refuse to belive that the people of this city do not care deeply for each other, despite the ever-growing gaps of mistrust between them. we carry each other's burdens, secrets, feelings. we lean on each other. more often than not, we take each other for granted.
now imagine you did not have that luxury. no coworkers, no friends, no family. it sounds impossible, doesn't it? but it's not. it is a mindset. in fact, it's surprisingly common among new yorkers. you probably already knew that, though, so let me get to my point. we all once had these. some still do. i am here to voice the thoughts of those who don't.
namely, as someone who is profoundly misunderstood, i am here to tell my story of both a figure of authority, and a vigilante. why would i out myself like this, you'll ask yourself. probably for leverage --- my story overlaps with many others, and if this is ever released to the public, it will be to end the secrets i'm keeping once and for all.
it all began when i was assigned to the organized crime unit of the fbi -- only a few months in, my team was already making headway
